Lázně Velké Losiny

Velké Losiny is one of the oldest communities in the district of Šumperk. It's reminded for the first time in 1297 as indebted to the church in Šternberk. Another mention is from 1351 when the vicarage fell to litomyšlské diocese. In the first half of the 15th century the village belonged to town of Šumperk and from the second half of the 15th century, the history of the village was connected with the House of Žerotín. The village first appears as a pledge, but since 1507 as part of its fixed asset.

 
The mansion Velké Losiny

In 1589 Jan the younger of Žerotín replaced the old wooden fort with a beautiful Rennaisance chateau with arcades, frescoes and graffiti. The original part of the castle of equipment, furniture, paintings and tapestries, preserved in an almost unchanged appearance, is evidence of the lifestyle of the old noble families in the 16th century. The chateau was rebuild and surrounded by a vast and beautiful French park in the 17th century.

Witchcraft trials

The dark side of life in the times of the castle is represent at by the ill-famed witch hunting trials as described in the novel by Václav Kaplický ,,Kladivo na čarodějnice" (,,Hammer on the Witches") and in the movie by Otakar Vávra bearing the same name.

The hand-made paper factory Velké Losiny

The hand-made paper producing factory of Velké Losiny becomes first noteworthy for its oldest watermark as early as 1596. Paper has been produced here in the traditional hand-made way 24 hours a day for the past four centuries. Inside this object there is the Museum of Paper, where visitors can get a better idea of hand-made paper produced, its origin and development. There is also a shop where one can get a whole range of hand-made paper products. The present hand-made paper mill is now the only and the last paper-making manufactory in Europe, therefore it has successfully led the discussion on its classsification as a UNESCO monument.

The parish church of John the Baptist

The parish chuch of John the Baptist in Velké Losiny, including the chapel of St. Cross with gallery containing the burial ground of the house of Žerotín, one of the greatest and most beautiful rural churches in the district of Šumperk.

Velké Losiny Today

Large Losiny are currently mainframe community, which includes the local part Maršíkov, Thermal, and Bukovice Ludvíkov. In the village you will find everything you need - mail, shops, hairdressing, barber shop, restaurant, gas station, garage ... Also you will find mini golf, cinema, football field.

Velké Losiny and its surroundings:

• For winter sport lovers mountain ski centres are accessible in the vicinity and daily kept cross-country trails.
• Tourist trails in the vicinity of Velké Losiny are good for mountain bike rides or hiking tours.
• There are available mini four-wheelers and summer skiing in summer, ski-lift and snowtubing in winter in ,,Sport center – Kareš" in Loučná nad Desnou ,,
• One of the tourist sights is ,,The seventh wonder of the Czech republic" -
  The Dlouhé stráně pumped-storage hydro power station in Kouty nad Desnou.
• We can also recommend visiting the Agricultural outdoor museum and the veteran museum with mini-zoo and children's corner in Rapotín near Šumperk.
• The nearby town of Šumperk is worth seeing as well.
• In July and August a show of theatre and musical creation will be held annually – Losinské kulturní léto at Chateau Velké Losiny.
